Valve Lash
Because there will always be guys wanting to set the inital lash (valve clearance) with the engine cold, we thought the following might be useful:
Hot Lash settings
| Model | Intake Valve | Exhaust Valve |
| CB22/23 | 0.20mm | 0.20mm |
| CB50/51/60/61 | 0.25mm | 0.25mm |
| CB70/80 | 0.27mm | 0.32mm |
| H series | 0.25mm (0.18mm cold) | 0.33mm (0.25mm cold) |
Cold Lash settings
Now what should the cold lash setting be? Well if you look at the H series settings you will see that the clearance decreases with temperature. But this can't be, you say, "the valve stem will grow with heat!". True, but with an alloy head the stem won't grow as much as the head itself.
So in the absence of any manufacturer's cold lash data you should have a smaller clearance than hot of about 0.05mm on an alloy head.
What you should then do is set the lash when the engine is hot, or set one pair while hot, let the engine cool and transfer the measured clearance to the other valves. Simple.
